THUSC is proud to offer one of the few SELECT programs in the area, bridging the gap between recreational and competitive programs. Select soccer is a competitive program for players who want a team that competes at a higher level than a recreational program, but are not ready for the dedication and intensity of the full-time competitive program. The Select program is for players or teams who have a desire to move beyond recreational soccer, and have demonstrated consistent success at the recreational level.  

While players still have to tryout to make a team in the program, the Select programs play on a seasonal basis, rather than the annual schedule of competitive teams. Teams playing in the Fall season may return for the Spring season. New teams and players can also join for the Spring season. We do not typically hold additional tryouts at that time and players are added to teams only if space allows.

U11-U15* program offers two seasons of play: Summer/Fall and Spring season.
U15*-U19 teams compete in Summer tournaments and a Winter league.

*U15 (2006) SCHEDULE NOTE: Players who will be U15 in 2020-2021 (born 2006) should recognize that they are now considered "high school" age even if they are still in 8th grade for school. The spring league schedule that you may be accustomed to ENDS at U14. For U15-U19, teams compete in a WINTER league, which begins in January and ends early March. U15+ Select teams may choose to also participate in OYSA Cup tournaments in March and April. 8th grade U15 players are not allowed (by OYSA rules) to compete in U11-U14 spring league as they are considered over-aged. 

The THUSC Select teams play in Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) competitive leagues at the competitive level selected by THUSC Select Director. If a team finishes in the top half of their competitive league, divisional movement will be considered by the THUSC Select Director. 

At the Select level, we do require the Select coaches to ensure players get at least 25 percent of available playing time over the course of the season. The only exceptions to this are in keeping with stated team rules, such as a failure to practice, disciplinary action, or player sickness/injury; in circumstances such as these, Select coaches can fall below the 25 percent requirement.

 NOTE: Tournament expenses for Select teams (entrance fee, travel, room/board, team activities) are not covered by Program Fees (see below) and are estimated and collected per team by team treasurers.

Coaches for the Select Program are volunteers.

Select Team Formation Policy

Select teams will not be formed until the following criteria are met:

2) A minimum 11 players per team have registered for the program by the established deadline for that season.
(fall 2020 deadline is August 1)

THUSC team fundraising events are encouraged to offset player expenses.
Parent volunteers are expected to organize and run team fundraisers.
