In response to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, Tualatin Hills United (THUSC) has begun the process of outlining a plan for a return to play. The Director of Coaching, along with the Board of Directors, and in consultation with state and local guidelines the THUSC return to play plan will be taking a phased approach to resuming activity.

We know that everyone is super excited to get back out there and start training, however, it is imperative that all coaches, players and families adhere to these guidelines. The plan addresses many critical details that must be followed by all players, parents, coaches, staff, etc. to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved with our club and community.

Our main priority is the safety of our members as we begin to return to play. This is the first phase, as we continue to follow the guidelines set by our soccer governing bodies as well as health officials.

These guidelines are intended to help keep us safe and members will be promptly notified of any changes as they occur.

Club Responsibilities

  • · Continue to monitor guidance from government and local health authorities and update our members with any changes.
  • · Create and maintain in-house safety protocols.
  • · Maintain participant confidentiality regarding health status.
  • · Be accommodating to parents/players who may be uncomfortable with returning to play at this time.
  • · The club will follow CDC Guidelines when dealing with a player’s positive diagnosis of COVID-19.
  • · Plan training schedules and activities that allow for social distancing.

Coaching Responsibilities/Training Protocols

  • · Coaches will ensure that the health and safety of players is the main priority.
  • · All coaches must follow all state and local health protocols and guidelines.
  • · Coaches that are feeling sick or have symptoms will need to stay home from training.
  • · Coaches will wear masks throughout the training sessions.
  • · All training should comply with social distances per state guidelines.
  • · The coach is the only person to handle equipment (e.g. cones, ladders etc.)
  • · No training pinnies will be used.
  • · Groups of no more than ten will be made; players must maintain a safe distance.
  • · Fields will be sectioned off, to allow for adequate space between groups.

Parent Requirements

  • · Ensure the club’s CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) Assumption of Risk Waiver of Liability is digitally signed online click here for form and provide a paper copy (or digital copy on player’s phone) at every THUSC activity.
  • · Confirm the player is healthy. Check for symptoms and the player’s temperature 30 minutes before heading to training. Please refer to Stay Home If You Are Sick info below. 
  • · Carpool only if absolutely necessary.
  • · Make sure your player’s equipment and training uniform are cleaned and sanitized after every training.
  • · Provide masks and sanitizing products to your player.
  • · Players who have been diagnosed with COVID must report this directly to THUSC General Manager: Justin Bolen [email protected] or (503) 616-9424 x3 
  • · Educate your child about proper behavior for social distancing and club guidelines and requirements.
  • · Set a good example - practice social distancing, wear a mask, etc.!

Drop off/Pick up

  • · Stay in the car when dropping your player off and if you have to get out make sure you use social distancing and wear a mask.
  • · Pick up your player at the designated pick up location. (see maps below)
  • · Please do not park at the drop off or pick up spots. Keep traffic flowing.
  • · Players should arrive 5 min before training and not any earlier to avoid crowds.

Player Responsibilities

  • · Wash hands before and immediately after training sessions.
  • · Do not share any equipment. Bring your own ball, water bottle and do not help coach pick up gear.
  • · Stay on your assigned field and walking paths to/from field as shown on map. 
  • · Practice social distancing. Remain 6 ft (about 2 arm lengths) away from others. 
  • · Wear a mask walking up to training and after training walking to your car.
  • · No group celebrations, high-fives, hugs, handshakes, fist-bumps, etc.
  • · Do not gather in groups before or after your session.

  • · All participating personnel, coaches, athletes, trainers who have been diagnosed with COVID must report this to THUSC and quarantine for 14 days after resolution of symptoms prior to returning. The key being, you have to be symptom free for two weeks as a requirement by all levels of authority.
  • · Coaches or athletes who are feeling sick with the Covid symptoms (fever of 100.4 or higher, cough, shortness of breath, body aches, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and loss of taste or smell) must report this to THUSC and be symptom free for 14 days prior to returning to participation or have a negative COVID test. This does not include allergy symptoms. This is also consistent across all authorities for return to play standards.
  • · If anyone you have been in contact with has been diagnosed with COVID you must report this to THUSC and be symptom free for 14 days from your contact date before you participate in THUSC activities.
  • · If anyone begins to feel or exhibit illness at practice, they will be asked to move themselves and gear to a designated area away from other current participants and arriving teams until their parent can pick them up.

  • · We ask that all parents check the athlete's temperature on a daily basis.

Please note that all scheduled THUSC activities are voluntary attendance. Please communicate with THUSC staff if your athlete is unable to attend.
